Developing at Wimbledon

Guided by a blend of tradition with innovation, the Club’s Grounds and facilities will continue to evolve for many years to come, with the Somerset Road development being the latest addition to a far wider master plan.

This latest phase of development includes:

  • The relocation of six clay courts on the main site to unlock the southern Grounds for future development.
  • Six new indoor courts and improved indoor facilities for competitors’ use.
  • Construction of an underground car park, which will be the hub of The Championships’ courtesy car operation, and the relocated competitor drop-off and accreditation area.

The underground car park will also provide an enhanced year-round parking solution for staff and contractors to help mitigate congestion on Somerset Road.

BBS are extremely proud to have supplied the natural stone for the project working together with the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC), P J Carey Contractors, Willmott Dixon and Terra firma Consultancy.

The scheme is using Italian Porphyry supplied from the Trento region of Northern Italy, and was individually chosen and specified during a design team visit to the quarry and factory. This material will create ared carpet across Somerset Road to the new development described above.

The scheme is also using a Green Chinese stone for kerbs, paving and steps which ties into the meticulously designed colour pallet specified by the AELTC.
