Revisiting Pancras Square Water Feature – King’s Cross, London
A Statement in Durability, Elegance, and Urban Experience.
Over a decade since its installation, the Pancras Square Water Feature in King’s Cross, London, remains a stunning example of urban placemaking at its finest.
Located just steps from one of the UK’s busiest transport hubs, this terraced, cascading water feature is a serene focal point within the bustling King’s Cross redevelopment. Designed to bring calm, movement, and reflection into the public realm, the installation transforms its surroundings by day and night—thanks to expert lighting and enduring material choices.
Design & Vision
At the heart of the water feature is a thoughtful landscape design that seamlessly integrates with the urban environment. By day, the sound and flow of water offer a gentle contrast to the city's fast pace. By night, subtle lighting by Speirs + Major adds an atmospheric dimension, turning the feature into a glowing centrepiece.
The Stone That Makes It Work: Caithness Stone
Selected for its natural texture, rich colour, and exceptional durability, Caithness Stone was the ideal choice for this high-traffic, water-exposed installation. Over 10 years later, it continues to perform exceptionally—showing minimal wear despite continuous exposure to the elements and heavy public use.
Caithness Stone’s unique aesthetic complements the surrounding architecture while standing as a testament to long-term value. Its inclusion reflects the project’s commitment to sustainability, performance, and timeless design.
A Lasting Legacy in the Public Realm
More than just a water feature, Pancras Square represents the successful collaboration of leading designers, builders, and material specialists. It’s a living example of how thoughtful design, quality materials, and expert execution can transform urban spaces for the long term.
At BBS Natural Stone, we’re proud to have contributed to a project that continues to inspire, uplift, and endure—year after year.
