Contemporary Granite Bench Designed and Supplied for Public Realm Project in Leicester City Centre
BBS has created some impressive street furniture for projects across the UK and the white granite bench in Leicester city centre is no exception.
Working with clients Leicester City Council and Civil Engineers Danaher & Walsh, BBS was tasked to create a natural stone feature bench for a brand new seating area on Kings Street Triangle in Leicester City Centre, following a major public realm regeneration of the area.
BBS, who specialise in creating bespoke street furniture for public realm projects such as this, designed the contemporary spiral bench following detailed discussion with the clients, and understanding the necessities for this type of installation, knew precisely which type of stone was required.
Chosen for its durability, aesthetics and cost, BBS’s Chinese Silver Grey – Imperial White Granite, was the perfect choice. Quarried from one of BBS’s Chinese boulder quarry partners who specialise in the large blocks required for bench units of this type, the Granite was processed under strictly controlled factory conditions, prior to delivery to the UK.
Designed by BBS's in-house design team, who applied years of natural stone knowledge and vast amounts of creative flair to the project, the spiral bench perfectly complements its surroundings. Flanked by the modern, contemporary architecture of the Kings Street regeneration on one side and the historic buildings of New Walk’s Victorian promenade on the other, the striking bench is the ideal place to take the weight off your feet.
As part of the comprehensive service package provided, structural engineers where appointed by BBS to carry out relevant testing to ensure the integrity of the natural stone bench, making sure it was structurally sound for use within a public area.
Following BBS’s rigorous quality and safety checks, all information was passed to contractor Danaher & Walsh for installation and completion of this fabulous natural stone project.
