A Donation from BBS Granite Concepts
On Wednesday 2nd November, 2011 HRH The Duchess of Gloucester visited the Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC) Nottingham to mark the hospital’s work on organ donation. During her visit the Duchess unveiled a bronze sculpture dedicated to all the deceased organ and tissue donors who in death have given the gift of life. The “Circle of Life” memorial was designed by Ann Vrielinck and is situated near the Medical School on the QMC site. The bronze sculpture was sited on Welsh Pennant stone donated by BBS Granite Concepts Ltd. The Queen's Medical Centre is known to be the largest hospital in the UK, and the largest teaching hospital in Europe (Source Wikipedia). The hospital was originally opened in 1977 by HRH Queen Elizabeth II as the largest teaching hospital in the UK.
Last year (2010/11) was a record year for the organ donation team at the Trust with more organ donors than any other trust in the Midlands. More than 55 patients benefited from transplants Royal recognition for organ donation success from 17 deceased donors, representing a 90 per cent increase on 2009/10 (source www.blood.co.uk).
