Stone Federation is the official trade association for the natural stone industry and provides architects, designers, specifiers, clients and the wider construction industry with a comprehensive source point for all things stone. Stone Federation have over 100 years’ experience and a membership made up of the most well-established and widely respected names in the industry, alongside the most innovative and creative of natural stone firms.
The Federation co-ordinates all aspects of the industry and provides specifiers and users with a first point of contact for information, advice and guidance in sourcing an appropriate material and a reliable service. The Stone Federation represents employers, liaises with government on legal affairs, health and safety, technical standards, craftsmanship, training and education. Stone Federation GB provides a one-stop shop for product information, technical guidance and advice on all aspects of specifying and working with stone.
BBS have always held a true commitment to the ethical and sustainable sourcing of natural stone, and as part of our continued work and successes in the stone industry, we have signed up to the Stone Federation’s Responsible Sourcing Pledge.
In 2012 Stone Federation launched the Stone Federation Sustainability Statement, which laid out a commitment to sustainable procurement and detailed the expectations of their members around this issue.
Building on this, in 2016 Stone Federation launched The Ethical Stone Register (ESR) a unique resource created specifically for the natural stone industry, in response to The Modern Slavery Act 2015 and the issues of sourcing materials responsibly.
Now, in 2023, Stone Federation are looking to build on these foundations with a new Responsible Sourcing Pledge which includes their Sustainability Statement.
The Responsible Sourcing Pledge is an opportunity for Stone Federation members, architects and major contractors alike to demonstrate their commitment to the issues of ethical and sustainable sourcing of natural stone.
As part of the Responsible Sourcing Pledge, The Stone Federation GB encourage all members to commit to their Sustainability Statement and to start their journey on the Ethical Stone Register.
In accordance with our membership of The Stone Federation, BBS sign up to the following pledge:
“As part of our commitment to the ethical and sustainable sourcing of materials, we are adding our name to the Stone Federation Responsible Sourcing Pledge. We are committed to adhering to the Stone Federation Sustainability Statement and starting our journey on the Ethical Stone Register.”
The issues of ethical and sustainable sourcing require the commitment of the whole supply chain, which is why the Responsible Sourcing Pledge is aimed at materials suppliers, specifiers, consultants and contractors.
The Ethical Stone Register is a unique resource created specifically for the natural stone industry, in response to The Modern Slavery Act 2015 and the issues of sourcing materials responsibly.
