Demelza children’s hospice

On July 1st 2013 the Demelza Children’s Hospice in Kent held the opening if its new garden of tranquillity, with DJ Chris Evans formally cutting the ribbon. This was a return visit for Mr Evans who had opened a play area at the hospice earlier in April.

The garden was created from hard work and donations organised by The Canary Wharf Contractors Group, giving a beautiful and peaceful area for families and their children linked with Demelza.

A team from Canary Wharf Contractors and their supply chain, currently building the 25/30 Churchill Place development at Canary Wharf, donated design and project management services, construction equipment, labour, materials, trees and shrubs to create the garden over the past nine months. In the process, they have raised over £500,000 in cash and in kind donations from almost 70 of their sub-contractors and suppliers, with staff volunteering their labour over numerous weekends to build the Garden.

The Garden of Tranquillity features landscaped gardens, a picnic area, an obelisk water feature, sensory areas, a stone bridge and walkway. It will be a special place for reflection and remembrance, as well as a fun and welcoming area for children staying at the hospice.

BBS are proud to be a part of this scheme, and proud to be a part of the official supply chain for the Canary Wharf Contractors.
